BASKETBALL
COURT SAFETY
COURT RULES
Basketball court rules should be posted in conspicuous locations near the
court entrance. Rules postings should cover everything from court conduct
to rules of play.
THE BASKETBALL COURT
When setting up your basketball court(s), the following guidelines should be
followed:
- Install break-away rims on glass backboards.
- Make sure the bottom of the backboard is properly
padded.
- Make sure all walls and poles beneath backboards are
properly padded.
- There should be at least 3 feet of unobstructed space
must be available around the court.
OUT-OF-BOUNDS AREAS
All major basketball regulating agencies recommend that there be a at least
3 feet of unobstructed space surrounding the entire basketball court.
Ideally there should be at least 10 feet of unobstructed space, This
means that there should be nothing inside this area. Nothing. That
means no bleachers, aerobic accessories, stored equipment, etc.
